The Clairs: Unlocking the Language of Your Intuition
You’ve felt it. A shiver when someone speaks the truth.
The scent of your grandmother’s perfume when no one’s around.
A sudden wave of sadness that isn’t yours.
Thinking of someone just before they text you.
These aren’t coincidences.
They’re Clairs, the subtle senses through which intuitive information flows.
At Nissa Retreats, we don’t just acknowledge these experiences, we help you decode them.
What Are “The Clairs,” Really?
In psychic development, “The Clairs” refer to different intuitive channels, each one representing a unique way your inner knowing communicates with you. Think of them as your spiritual sensory system. Just like sight and touch help you navigate the physical world, the Clairs help you navigate the energetic one.
Most people are strongest in one or two Clairs, but you likely have access to all of them. The goal isn’t to “get more psychic.” It’s to learn how you already receive intuitive data, so you can trust what you sense, and act from a deeper place of clarity.
Let’s go deeper into each of the Clairs and what they’re meant to help you do.
Claircognizance, Clear Knowing
What it feels like: Sudden insights, gut hunches, or ideas that just “drop in.” You know something, but you don’t know how you know it.
How it helps you: Claircognizance is like a spiritual download. It’s guidance without context, perfect for decision-making when logic feels unclear. This is your higher intelligence bypassing the analytical mind.
Cultivate it by: Journaling flashes of insight before questioning them. Trust the message before seeking proof.
Clairvoyance, Clear Seeing
What it feels like: You “see” things in your mind’s eye, images, colors, symbols, or entire scenes. These often arrive during meditation, in dreams, or when you're deeply focused. They don’t feel imagined, they feel sent.
How it helps you: Clairvoyance gives your intuition a visual language. It helps you interpret energy, emotion, and spiritual insight through symbolic imagery. You might “see” a rose when someone is speaking about love, or a storm cloud when a decision feels off. It’s especially powerful in mediumship, when spirit communicates in snapshots or metaphor.
How to strengthen it:
During breathwork or meditation, focus behind your closed eyelids and notice any shapes or colors that emerge. Don’t force images, just observe.
Keep a dream journal and record recurring imagery, what emotions do those symbols evoke?
Practice symbolic interpretation during partner exercises at the retreat: describe what you “see” when focusing on someone’s energy, even if it doesn’t make logical sense. Heidi will help you decode the visual language of your intuition with clarity and confidence.
Clairsentience, Clear Feeling
What it feels like: Emotions, sensations, or physical symptoms that arise suddenly and seem out of place, especially in response to people, places, or decisions.
How it helps you: This is the channel of empaths. You’re feeling energy as information. It’s incredibly useful for reading people, spaces, and your own alignment.
Cultivate it by: Learning the difference between your emotions and what you’re picking up from others. Somatic practices and grounding help here.
Clairaudience, Clear Hearing
What it feels like: Hearing messages in your head that don’t sound like your internal voice. You might also hear names, music, phrases, or spirit messages in silence.
How it helps you: Clairaudience is often the most surprising Clair, it gives direct verbal insight. Think: phrases that echo in your mind and later prove true.
Cultivate it by: Spending time in silence. Ask your inner guidance a question, then listen. Trust that what you hear in stillness may carry meaning.
Clairalience, Clear Smelling
What it feels like: Sensing smells with no physical source. Often tied to memories or spirit presence (like tobacco smoke or gardenias from a loved one).
How it helps you: Scent is a direct path to the emotional brain. Clairalience can bring comfort, affirmation, or warning, especially from ancestors or guides.
Cultivate it by: Noticing when memories are triggered by smells. Don’t dismiss “phantom scents”, they may be energy trying to get your attention.
Clairgustance, Clear Tasting
What it feels like: Tasting a food or flavor that isn’t there, often tied to a specific person or emotional memory.
How it helps you: This one is rare, but potent. It connects the spiritual with the sensory, often offering symbolic messages around nourishment, lineage, or emotion.
Cultivate it by: Paying attention to taste when you think of someone, especially during mediumship or memory work.
Why The Clairs Matter
It’s about learning the language of your intuition, so you stop second-guessing and start trusting yourself on a deeper level.
When you know how intuitive information comes to you, everything changes:
You make decisions with more ease.
You navigate relationships with greater sensitivity.
You stop outsourcing your truth to others.
You begin to experience guidance as a conversation, not a mystery.
