How to Choose the Right Psychic (and When to Walk Away)
You’d be surprised how many people call me after a disappointing psychic experience.
They’ll say, “She kept asking me questions,” or “He didn’t say anything that rang true.” Some feel manipulated. Others just feel let down.
Let’s clear something up:
You should never walk out of a psychic reading feeling confused, drained, or like you gave more than you got. A real psychic experience should feel clarifying, even if it's emotional, it should leave you feeling more connected to yourself and your path.
Here’s how to know you’ve found the right psychic and what to look out for if you haven’t.
Red Flags to Watch For
They ask too many questions.
A true psychic or medium doesn’t need to mine for details. If someone is fishing, asking your birth date, your relationship history, what you do for work, they're reading you, not your energy.
I’ve had people call and say, “Can I give you my birthday for a reading?”
And I tell them honestly: I don’t need that. It doesn’t mean anything to me.
They speak in vague generalities.
Things like, “You’ve had some pain in your past” or “Someone around you has passed” These are vague statements that can apply to anyone. If a reading is full of guesswork or could apply to a hundred people, it’s not tuned in.
They can't tell you anything you didn’t already know.
A good reading offers insights or validations that surprise you in a deep way. Even if the messages are subtle, you’ll feel them resonate.
If you’re sitting there thinking, “None of this is true,” or “They’re just telling me what I want to hear,” that’s your intuition speaking.
They create fear or dependency.
No legitimate psychic should scare you into buying more services. “There’s a dark energy around you,” or “You’ll be cursed if you don’t clear this”, these are manipulative tactics. Walk away. No exceptions.
They don’t give you space to feel.
A psychic session should feel like a sacred space, not a performance. If they’re rushing, pushing, or dominating the session without leaving room for your reaction, they’re not truly present with you.
What to Look For in a Psychic
Specific, unsolicited details.
The best readers will bring up names, symbols, phrases, or references they couldn’t possibly know and you’ll feel it in your body when they do. It’s that goosebumps moment. That instant “Yes, that’s real.”
A clear energetic boundary.
They won’t ask for your backstory. They’ll just begin. You’ll feel that they’re receiving, not probing. That’s a sign you’re in safe hands.
A calm, grounded presence.
They don’t try to impress you. They’re not showy. Their energy is stable. They’re simply here to serve as a channel for what’s coming through and that humility is powerful.
The ability to say, “I don’t know.”
A real psychic knows when something isn’t coming through. We don’t get everything. If your reader is honest about this, it’s a good sign, they’re not making it up.
You leave feeling seen, not shaken.
Whether it was joyful, tearful, or subtle, the right reading will leave you feeling affirmed, not anxious. You’ll walk away with something that sticks, like a message, a feeling, a knowing.
Trust Your Gut
If something feels off during a session, stop it. You can always walk out. You don’t owe anyone your vulnerability, especially not someone who’s supposed to honor it.
The right psychic doesn’t take power from you. They help you reclaim it.
If you’re curious about what a reading can feel like when it’s done with integrity and love, I’d be honored to show you. Whether through a private session or at one of my upcoming retreats, my work is always focused on helping you access your own inner guidance.
Your intuition already knows. I’m just here to help you trust it.
